Power converters

Voltage converters, also called power converters operate as STEP-UP converters and STEP-DOWN converters. The purpose of an inverter is to change the current or voltage to match the requirements of the load being powered, with as little power loss as possible.

Inverters are found in most mains devices as step-down converters to reduce current and voltage. Step-up converters are devices that can be found, for example in the automotive industry in gasoline cars with spark ignition adapted to high voltage. Electrical inverters can occur as stand-alone and external devices (e.g. automotive inverter) or as part of more complex machines and equipment, e.g. in the case of televisions as a built-in integral component.
